If you looked up the term "flat surface" in the dictionary you would most likely see this definition:
 a place to collect clutter.

While I am very talented at decluttering my life of people, of drama, and of unnecessary baggage, I'm not always good at decluttering my surfaces.  Things just tend to pile up.  Mail, gift bags, things from inside the car, crochet hooks, unhung pictures... Everything just tends to pile up.

But enough is enough.  This is more than just about my flat surfaces, this is about my search for simplicity.  My life will not get any simpler when it is covered by random nonsense that I don't use often enough for it to have a regular home.  So we purge, we repurpose, we designate places.  So that instead of clutter, we have this:

And this:

Not only does this look better, but it feels better.  Instead of feeling as chaotic as my surfaces, I feel relaxed, and relieved.  Gone are the days when we have to tidy up for company, gone are the days when we have a mad dash to shove everything into our room, or the babies room.  This is our home, and we should treat it as such.

In other news, with the help of my wonderful, artist, great aunt we picked paint colors!
