Rediscovering Advent: A Hunger For More

God provides.  This has been the lesson I have learned over the past few months, over the past few years even.  It's what compelled Paul to quit is job and study full time, with no guarantees.  It's what drove him to continue to study, and to pass his insurance exam.   And God did provide.  Paul passed after three months, and was able to get a job.  He cut down his hour and fifteen minute commute to twenty minutes.  And for the first time since I've known him, he's happy in his work.  I'm so proud of him.

Jesus asked them, "How many loaves have you?"  They said, "Seven and a few small fish."  Then ordering the crowd to sit on the ground, He took the seven loaves and the fish; and after giving thanks He broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds.  And all of them ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.
Matthew 15:34-3

God has given us yearnings, hunger. Paul's was to be a righteous provider  and he succeeded   But we hunger for more.  We hunger for truth.

And yet here we are, in the Christmas season.  We stalk online deals and sales with the dedication and perseverance of the most skilled hunter.  We spend, spend, spend trying to make those around us happy.  But what really makes us happy?  The things, are just that, things. An iPad won't save your soul.  It won't kiss you goodnight, or sing you to sleep.  It's God that matters, and people, through God.

Lord, keep my heart open to You during this advent season.  Give me a hunger for You, for Your grace.  All my hope is in you.

God Bless.
