Child Led Weaning: Why I'm Letting Him Decide

I wrote another post for Intoxicated on Life!  This time, I wrote on my experience with Child Led weaning, and why I'm letting Anthony decide when we wean.  This was a hard post to write, because I know that not everyone is accepting of extended breastfeeding.  I'm hoping my experience and stance will help open hearts and minds.  Here's a snippet:

"My son is fifteen months old. He is like unchained lightning, everywhere all at once, touching and finding and getting into things, asking me, “What is this,” with the vigor of someone new in the world. He can find jelly beans anywhere, regardless of whether there was a jelly bean in that place to begin with. He runs and toddles like a drunken penguin being chased by a polar bear. He sings and likes to show me where my eyes are by poking just hard enough to make my vision spotty. He’s my whole world.

And he’s still nursing."

  1. Great post! I'm still nursing my 28 month old, so I know exactly what you go through. Lucky for me, she doesn't ask to nurse in public anymore, normally just in the morning and at night, so I don't have to deal with people staring at me while I'm nursing her. But people still judge me for breastfeeding her for this long. I'm doing my best to help normalize breastfeeding and extended breastfeeding. ( :

  2. Amen sister! We are being the change we want to see in the world. I think doing what is best for our babies is more important than any judgment we receive. It's still hard, though it helps knowing that my baby is happy!
