The Break-Up.

DELIBERATE
1: characterized by or resulting from careful and thorough consideration <a deliberate decision>
2: characterized by awareness of the consequences<deliberate falsehood>
3: slow, unhurried, and steady as though allowing time for decision on each individual action involved <a deliberate pace>

The transition walking to running was deliberate, a careful and calculated move.  She made sure he was watching, those big brown eyes fringed with heavy, heartbreaking lashes.  She wanted him to see her in motion.  She cut through the air like a water bird diving into the deep blue.  Her sun bleached hair trailed behind her, and from the corner of her eye she could see him smile at her.

“It’ll be our secret,” he said, kissing her on the mouth.  “You and me, baby.”

She timed her leap perfectly, clearing the hurtle with spectacular form.  Tonight she would tell him.  Tonight she would close the book on them forever.  He would be just another hurtle standing small behind her.

  6. I used to run them, so I loved this hurdle metaphor. Feel bad for the guy, though.
